Royal Voluntary Service Manchester Royal Infirmary

Royal Voluntary Service Manchester Royal Infirmary

We have operated retail at the Manchester Royal Infirmary Outpatients Café for a number of years. During the pandemic we were asked by the hospital trust to close our unit as they were in desperate need for additional clinical space. Whilst disappointed to close we knew it was important to support the NHS and our community in this way.
We then looked at other ways of supporting the staff and visitors at the hospital at this time and discovered a disused area in the hospital that we thought we could turn into an RVS “pop up” café. In a matter of weeks, with the help of service assistants Julie and Lynsey and some great support from the hospital estates team we had converted a disused space into a fully formed, covid-19 secure and safe tea bar in the hospitals Peter Mount Building. Again, allowing us to support and serve the NHS staff, patients and visitors at this terrible time and allow, once again for our volunteers to return to do what they do best.
The Peter Mount Unit has been a real success and continues to grow each week and has proven to be a real success story.

Hard work, drive and determination to support their hospital, that is why I am proud of my store at the RVS Peter Mount, Manchester Royal Infirmary.
