Proud of my store

Celebrating stores, retail staff empowerment and why you can say…
I’m #ProudOfMyStore.

Everyday millions of customer and brand interactions happen both physically and digitally, each one just as valuable as the next. We want to celebrate the retail stores who believe that every piece of customer feedback matters and are empowering staff to become customer-obsessed.

What retail stores and frontline staff have achieved over the past 12 months is incredible – and at Critizr, we believe this should be celebrated. That’s why we’ve introduced the ProudOfMyStore initiative. A chance for stores up and down the country to share why they are proud and compete to be chosen the winning store in our by our panel of retail experts. From Grocers and Fashion stores, to banks and restaurants, we want to hear from you all.

[Competition now closed]

Monthly winner prize: Ben’s luxury cookies for the whole team & a £100 donation to your store’s chosen charity

Overall winner prize (Selected from our monthly winners): A luxury hamper for the whole team to share, an additional donation of £300 to your store’s chosen charity and the title of becoming the ‘Proudest Store’ in the UK.

Our competition is now closed but you can still celebrate your store and tell the story of why you are proud here!

We know that there is always room for improvement but to be able to acknowledge our growth is amazing & fulfilling! I love that each staff member will go that extra mile for the customer in their own way, whether they need assistance around the store, help with ordering an item or just to ask whether we have a toilet, aha the team is always on hand for our customers! Customers love our energy instore and love to banter and keep the energy light and uplifted for both the team and the customer. A happy team brings even happier customers I’m excited to continue watching the store, the team GROW.

I am super proud of my store, and more importantly my team, because of the complete transformation we have had over one of the most challenging times for retail as an industry. I joined the store in October ‘20 and began setting out a framework for achieving every day and making each day count.

I am so grateful for all the hard work everybody has put in to make sure we are constantly striving to hit targets and staying on top, no matter what’s thrown at us.

Through lockdown after lockdown, everyone has stayed so proud of our store and it shows from selling the most markdown stock on the first day of reopening to our new footwear department.

We are on an upwards positive trajectory and I couldn’t be more proud of not only the work that is going on within store, but also how we are getting involved with the company, pride campaigns and community projects.

I am so proud of our family at Pets at Home Corstorphine!

Apart from dealing with the changes brought about by the virus our store has taken everything that has been thrown at us in our stride. We have had many ups and downs but stuck together through it all and had a sing and dance along the way.

We always put ourselves out there with incentive drives and shout about how well each other are doing and I am so proud that we always celebrate each other successes.

This vibe extends to our customers/clients and when they walk through our doors we make sure we make them and their pets part of out family too! We have our regulars who know all our names and we also manage to find new family members who have never owned a pet before.

We were bursting with pride and what we have accomplished that we entered into an internal store of the year competition and managed to secure a place with the top 1% of all stores throughout the company.

Massive thank you to the whole team and each of you individually for the role you play in our family! Big love for Pets at Home Corstorphine <3

No matter what happens we are there for each other, the store has been cleaned top to bottom by the colleagues throughout Covid. When customers got aggressive they smiled and assistant anyway, when customers have thrown goods around the shop, they smile and tidy it away. We have helped each other through the hard and the easy, always taking time to listen. Whether they have struggled at home or at work they have support.

The store has been de cluttered both out the back and on shop floor to make a better shopping experience for our customers. Customers love bringing the pups through and in their words, it’s the dog’s favourite place to go! We are also very fortunate to have both a groomers and vets, they have both struggled through the busyness of the pandemic! Only allowed to treat those that are a welfare need etc, the government restricting every move they make. But they’ve got out the other side still smiling and laughing! And we are stronger as one team

I couldn’t be any prouder of my store even if I tried.

I came to this store after they had a particularly tough time with a CVA. The moral was low. We stayed upbeat had a fantastic Christmas 2019 lots of team engagement & positivity to be had.

4 months later our world as we knew it goes into a pandemic 2020. 1 year on after 6 months in & out of closure.
This team has come back fighting. The support we have for one another, their drive to want us to succeed & their ambition to support our local community is inspiring.

We are trying to a truly local store. Linking with our stores chosen charity (new beginnings – homeless charity), holding events for old age ranges most weeks & supporting small businesses on Instagram.

I’m excited for our future & know i now have a team here set to take Reading by storm.

Just a few of our memorable moments:

We have a customer called Anne. She came in every season for must-haves picked by Serena.
Styled and fitted for her. Anne only came in once by off chance loved the service then this was the result.

Knowing the C&C customer’s by their names when they enter the stores so we can grab before they ask.

Louise needed help with denim before lockdown. Was helped with this and since then she trusts the team and comes in for different ideas.

Now stocking Apricot we have identified customers that we will know will love this. Whether it’s the style or even just the colour. Resulting in us outperforming our region.

The rest is what I call the basics – always a good morning, thank you . With a little bit of banter.
We pride our store on what’s separates us is our personalities and the vibe in store.

Our loyal customers, most of which we know by name, pop in weekly to see what’s new and tell us what they have been up to. We pick out bits we know they will like because we know them. I feel it’s quite rare these days to have such a personal customer experience in retail and I so proud that we offer it. We pride ourselves on the positive energy we have and customers always comment on how friendly and happy our store is! We may not be a big store but we are a store with a BIG heart ❤️

I could not be more proud of my team here in Banbridge but a special mention to my Supervisor Danielle who went over and above with a customer this week.

Danielle had by chance got a couple of calls from a customer who was enquiring via telephone about different skirts we had in store, she told the customer that they could come in and see the skirts or download our new look app to explore a bigger range and have them delivered to the store for free should they have had any concerns leaving the house during these strange times. The customer then on the third phone call confided in Danielle that they were currently in the transitioning stage of one gender to another and that they were really anxious about coming to any store to try on clothes. Danielle immediately used her natural caring, considerate nature and explained to the customer that she would meet them at the door at a set time and walk the floor with them as a companion to select items, she had a fitting room reserved for the customer and told the customer she would wait for them to try on and then offer her opinion and help select the products. 100% assured the customer that our store is a safe space and that if ever they need to come In and have anxiety to ring ahead and she would be a go to member of the team until they were fully comfortable with all the team.

Never in my life have I came across such an excellent service being provided and what’s more it all came naturally to Danielle to think outside the box and go that extra mile for a customer who had concerns coming to the store

I could not be more proud of this amazing gesture and that the customer was able to overcome their fear of visiting us whilst going through a challenging time in their life.

Royal Voluntary Service Manchester Royal Infirmary

Royal Voluntary Service Manchester Royal Infirmary

We have operated retail at the Manchester Royal Infirmary Outpatients Café for a number of years. During the pandemic we were asked by the hospital trust to close our unit as they were in desperate need for additional clinical space. Whilst disappointed to close we knew it was important to support the NHS and our community in this way.
We then looked at other ways of supporting the staff and visitors at the hospital at this time and discovered a disused area in the hospital that we thought we could turn into an RVS “pop up” café. In a matter of weeks, with the help of service assistants Julie and Lynsey and some great support from the hospital estates team we had converted a disused space into a fully formed, covid-19 secure and safe tea bar in the hospitals Peter Mount Building. Again, allowing us to support and serve the NHS staff, patients and visitors at this terrible time and allow, once again for our volunteers to return to do what they do best.
The Peter Mount Unit has been a real success and continues to grow each week and has proven to be a real success story.

Hard work, drive and determination to support their hospital, that is why I am proud of my store at the RVS Peter Mount, Manchester Royal Infirmary.

user_circleCreated with Sketch. Heidi Berry is proud of

Craft Coop Windsor, Windsor

Craft Coop Windsor, Windsor

The Craft Coop is an award-winning social enterprise concept that allows local makers to sell their handmade products in a nurturing high street retail environment. Prior to COVID, there were 3 stores – our ‘flagship’ (OG) in Maidenhead, in addition to High Wycombe and Camberley.

We had wanted to open a new store in Windsor for some time, but negotiations were stalled in the initial lockdown during the pandemic. Realising that more and more people were recognising the benefits of ‘locally produced’ goods – and some were even honing their artistic skills (and even pivoting) during later lockdowns – we persisted in our discussions with local supporters – with town centre manager, councillors and, most importantly, Windsor Yards shopping centre to agree on some space for a pop-up this year.

We were delighted to be provided space in an empty retail unit – which needed a little TLC – so we rallied friends and family to help paint and prepare it, in a socially distanced and safe manner. As a registered CIC, we do not have much in the way of spare funds, but through the generosity of the shopping centre and local supporters, we managed to up- and recycle existing fixtures and fittings from other disused premises and make our new retail space look like a ‘gallery’!

In parallel, we set about recruiting artisans and makers to help fill the space and sell their products in the shop. Previously this has been managed via a series of Open Calls (almost X Factor style!) in person, but instead we met all our new ‘Coopers’ over zoom to discuss their products and skills – ensuring too quality variety – from paintings, photography and homewares (ceramics, textiles, candles etc), to jewellery, accessories and clothing.

We provided socially distanced training – and on 12 April we opened our doors for the first time. As part of our business model, the Coopers all need to work one shift a week in the store – meaning they get a chance to meet like-minded craft-passionate folk in a safe, nurturing environment. They also get to know one another’s products and can talk to customers about the maker’s background and product range – which often in turn encourages commissioned work.

Since then we have grown an even bigger community, along with supporters from the general public – reflected by our ever growing social media presences. We’ve become a collection point for a local family-related charity ‘The Baby Bank’ and also chose the ‘Windsor Homeless Project’ as our charity for 2021 – which will receive proceeds from any events we do, plus our honesty coffee pot. We have a community noticeboard where anyone can pin updates – for example Windsor Community Fridge etc, and even have a stuffed dog called ‘Cooper’!

We are delighted with the progress we have made, despite the adversity of starting a new operation in a pandemic, with a load of people that didn’t necessarily know one another, and not much in the way of funds – but with oodles of passion and a local mindset!

We believe its a win-win for all – we have a beautiful new shop, artisans and makers can sell their wares, and hopefully the wider Windsor community (in addition to the shopping centre) appreciate the vibrancy of having us there too!

We put the customer at the heart of everything we do. We have not been trading for long since October last year but have built up a great relationship with our customers. We listen to their comments, we action their requests where possible and we greet them all with a smile and a warm welcome to the store. we have regular range reviews in conjunction with what customers are saying. The store is constantly evolving and changing.

If they need assistance we gladly help whether that be helping them to find something or taking their shopping to their car we will gladly do that. We have also delivered customers shopping where feasible. We like to think we have made their day a little easier. We are aware that for some elderly customers we will be the only people that they have contact with – so we go that extra mile if they just want a chat and giggle.

Our Deli counter is on hand to help with any requests i.e. a special pizza, a special sandwich, wrap or bap if we can help then we will!

Our team has been brilliant through lockdowns with cleaning, disinfecting and adhering to policies within the store and they have done it all with a happy disposition and a smile (although no one see’s that with the masks)

We do regular updates on Facebook and have run a fun day in conjunction with the Children’s Air Ambulance. Christmas we had find the elf for the kids within the store which proved to be a big hit with children and parents alike. Easter we ran a coloring competition for the kids which again was very popular. Events like these will continue within the store throughout the year.

We are all very proud of our store!!

at the start of the pandemic, we lost one of our long-serving colleagues and it came as a total shock to everyone. we had no idea this was going to be one of the most difficult years of our lives but we stuck by each other during difficult times. Either it was simply asking ‘are you ok?’ or bringing in cake.

We stayed open during the duration of the pandemic and countered countless abuse from some customers as they were becoming frustrated that some in-store services were suspended, but everyone took it in their stride and we reminded ourselves that everyone will be finding this situation difficult and not to take it to heart.

Other customers on the other hand relied on us to ensure that they stayed stocked up on all of their pets favourite products.

Some vulnerable customers were shielding or simply afraid to leave their home so colleagues volunteered their time to hand-deliver (social distanced) their pets favourite items direct to their door at no extra cost to the customer and the thanks we got was invaluable and kept everyone’s spirits up.

I am truly proud of my store and in particular my team.

Despite working through a global pandemic, we have also had to sadly relocate our premises and all go through a lengthy consultation process, yet despite the uncertainty and these challenging times, all team members have remained positive, committed and determined.

I have been blown away by their support in setting up and opening our new store and I’m extremely excited to hear our customers feedback and how we can best serve their needs.

All of the team continue to contribute ideas and support each other. For this we refer to ourselves as a family rather and for that I’m proud and I genuinely don’t think I could ask for a more engaged team.

They really know how to make a difference and I think this drives their engagement which translates to our customers snd their experience.

As a front line pet health care provider we have remained open continuously throughout the past 12 months, having to make some very significant changes to the usual way we worked pre-Covid.

Due to the strict guidelines we were limited to sick pet and emergency cases for a period of time which came with its own challenges having to communicate this with our clients who were worried about their pets, owners were not allowed in to the building having the leave their pets with us at the door no matter what the reason for their visit. Our team adapted seamlessly and communicated this to clients with complete professionalism despite the challenging responses we often received back. This sadly included euthanasia which was heart-breaking to have to implement but again the team did this with complete professionalism and empathy despite the upsetting moments.
Extra pressures were added having to take payments remotely and run medications out to clients at the back of the practice in a “drive-thru” type scenario but we rose to the challenge!

During the early stages of the pandemic we also lost 2 of our 3 Vets and one of our Client Care team members under quite stressful circumstances which resulted in additional work loads and the remaining vet/JVP having to work solely without a day off for months to keep the practice open. Half of our team had to be furloughed adding further strain but again we all rose to the challenge and cracked on with smiles on our faces!

When I am asked where I work I am always proud to say I work at Vets 4 pets Swinton!

I am proud of my store and amazing team because during the last year they have all stepped up and helped us to continue serving customers to the highest standard and also without customers noticing any massive difference in trading.
We were awarded ‘MADL fundraiser of the year 2020’ and have also been named as one of the top 100 independent retailers in UK and Ireland 2021 (IAA achievement).
My team greet each customer with a smile and we are all one big family, we know our customers and always try and go as far as we can to make sure that their shopping experience is a positive one.
We have worked hard together to ensure that the shop is as COVID secure as possible even changing the layout of the shop to ensure a one way system is adhered to.
We have made regular donations to the local food bank and also worked with local villages and donated over 150 goody bags to the local hospitals and ambulance stations during the pandemic. We also participate in food waste schemes such as Olio and Too Good To Go and without my team this would not be possible.
I am very proud of my team and am so thankful for them supporting me and making the shop what it is and for also supporting our local charities by helping fundraise.

During Covid we have had lots of tough challenges from public abuse to anxiety and concerns for our safety but this has never stopped us from delivering amazing service to our customers, ensuring their pets are looked after and continuing to develop our skills and knowledge.

We have all grown so close throughout it all, being a rock for each other and welcoming new members to our team with open arms. I am so overwhelming proud of my store because….although last year has been particularly tough year for everyone, my team have gone above and beyond in some truly challenging times. Having had health issues myself last year, I was absent from the workplace for some of the difficult months. Upon returning, I am blown away at how the team have looked out for one another and supported in anyway they can. Colleagues have stepped up into positions with more responsibility, the team have bonded on another level and now all departments run perfectly alongside eachother, helping eachother with tasks that they had no experience with before the pandemic.

But most of all, I am so proud at how they have supported me during my difficult times. I never felt alone, I knew they were desperate to see me and have me back with them. When I did return I couldn’t have been made to feel more appreciated and missed, which is a huge deal for someone who has been out of the business for a long period. The store have over performed in every target, the standards are amazing and I am blessed to work with the people I do. We keep going from strength to strength, and I would love nothing more than to be able to take them out for a big celebration when we are all able! So maybe it isn’t so much the store that I am proud of, but my magical and wonderful team, who make the store what it is. Thank you Pets at Home South Shields, you continue to amaze me everyday.

Well what a year 2020 has been and what an amazing team i have had by my side through it all, with so many changes and the pace at which it was moving my team adapted and just went with it no hesitations, just got on with the job in hand. After the initial 3 week full lockdown our store became the place to be and i believe we helped countless customers feel ‘normal’ in the midst of all that was going on, we were here for them as much as there pets, it was a haven for stress relief. My team have helped me through the year in so many ways, the fact that no matter what came there way was dealt with it testiment to how fabulous they have all been. We have seen the amount of pet owners grow over the past year and so many 1st time pet owner who have been so appreciative of our help and beyond that the support network that they so need as a 1st time pet owner, so not only do we know the pet but we know the customer and it means so much to them that they can rely on us. Team Coleraine do a superb job day in day out, they adjust adapt and overcome the ever changing situations that they come across. Also proud of all the stores here in NI we are a team in essence across the board, Area Manager included and help support each other no matter what 🙂

We have a customer Kyle, Kyle has special needs and is our favourite customer in the world. He loves Pets at Home and visiting to see all the pets and his friends who work there. When Kyle had to shield, his family got in touch to say he was struggling and asked for help. We sent him care packages of items from the store and little video updates to show ‘his’ pets were being looked after and were ok. Towards the end of the year we relocated the store and this was a big change for Kyle, so we invited him on opening weekend to cut the ribbon in front of all his friends and family and give him a personal tour so he felt ok with the move. In short I’m proud of my team because we helped one special person cope with the last year a bit better.

We took it upon ourselves at a store level to offer out free shirt printing of JORDAN 7 on anyone’s football shirt as the town came together to honour Jordan whether it was standing down the promenade during a 2hr memorial convoy, schools did numerous events which allowed children to wear Jordan 7 which we supplied, and we organised charity buckets that raised money for the children’s hospice that supported Jordan’s family after his death.

I am really proud of our colleagues who have worked through the pandemic to provide services to our much values NHS team.

Our NHS teams work at the forefront of the pandemic and our service provides much-needed support. Our staff and Volunteers are there through thick and thin to do their much-loved roles and I am in awe of them.

By providing the charity retail services that we do, we sell a number of lunch meal deals which include a sandwich, a packet of crisps and a cold drink. As the NHS staff often do 12-hour shifts our staff and volunteers take pride in being able to provide healthy nutritious food to these hard-working individuals and offer a sounding board to make them feel better too.

Everyone has pulled togeher over the last year with COVID restrictions changing constantly. Being a store that’s remained open we have adapted to everchanging rules and guidelines for customers and colleagues. We have received lots of great feedback about the procedures we follow and customers are feeling safe to shop in our store. We also get a lot of great colleague reviews from the large amount of new puppy owners over the last year with the standard of care we provide and ensuring they are taking advantage of the vouchers throug our app.
We work really hard on getting our three deliveries out a week and taking care of all our animals in store every day. Our new colleagues have put a lot of effort into training to be able to provide all services in store as well.

Co-op Food – Romford – South Street, South Street, Romford

Hi there, I would love to nominate my team Co-op Romford South Street. During the start of the coronavirus pandemic we not only had to deal with the panic buying and abuse from shoplifters but we also were dealing with the demolition of the building above our store. For months we had many things happening which meant in the end our store temporarily closed in July 2020 for Health and Safety reasons. We have remained closed and won’t reopen until September this year due to the ongoing circumstances but I’m so proud of how the team have settled into other stores and helped stores across the area, maintaining amazing attitudes and supporting me as their new store manager having been their deputy manager last year. I couldn’t be more proud of the resilience and determination of my team as they have continued being a part of many various groups within Co-op including BAME and Pride to support and teach others.

I am proud of my clinic and my amazing team because they have worked extremely hard looking after the many, many patients who needed our help with such passion and commitment during a very difficult time. Adapting to being incredibly short-staffed but busier than ever before. Handling all the new Covid precautions and intensive cleaning regimes. Adding to their skillset daily, stepping outside of their usual job roles and handling the extra workload fearlessly. This team is responsible for providing life-changing procedures for countless patients over the last 12 months as well as dealing with the pandemic affecting them personally and are still going strong today with ever increasing dedication. Well done and thank you, you are absolute warriors.

They have the best attitude and have just delivered everything that has been asked of them during the pandemic. They have opened and closed space at the drop of a hat, adapting to new ways of working.
They have delivered fantastic service to customers and going above and beyond to help those who are vulnerable.
They have supported each other and the management team during a really difficult time, their team spirit has been incredible.
Without my team we don’t have a store!!

Within the pharmacy and the whole store we all continued to work throughout covid. It made us closer as a team within the whole store. There was only a small team if us that continued to work the whole time but we made the most of it and worked harder.

Royal Voluntary Service Café and Shop, Macclesfield

Royal Voluntary Service Café and Shop, Macclesfield

Royal Voluntary Service’s Macclesfield Café and Shop has been proudly serving staff and patients at Macclesfield District General Hospital with comforting hot drinks and nourishing food for over 15 years.

At the start of the pandemic the Hospital Trust, its staff and patients were really needing our support, and so we chose to stay open when other retail outlets in the hospital were closing. We reviewed our service and knew that it wouldn’t be straightforward, but that we had to do it.

We transformed our café into a safe shop/café unit, we also had a hot drink and fresh sandwich vending machine installed, to ensure that NHS staff and patients could buy what they needed at anytime, day or night. At the height of the pandemic, we were Covid-secure, to protect everybody.

Life in the hospital became very different and we had to adapt quickly, we made disposable menus so that staff could pre-order their breakfast and lunch, which we would then deliver safely to their wards. We had food orders for different departments all over the hospital and would happily adapt our menu to meet their sometimes very strange requests, which always gave us a giggle!! We would often get an early morning or late evening knock at the door whilst we were closed, as staff knew, and still know that we will always be there to serve them whilst we’re in the building.

As we could see how hard they were working, we did our very best to constantly make staff feel welcome and at every opportunity we would try to cheer them up and make them smile, the free donations helped! From giving them fresh fruit & vegetables or crisps & drinks, to the free cookies on a Friday – which were always guaranteed to make them smile!

We are really proud of what we have achieved during the pandemic as a team, we have worked hard and adapted where we needed to, to show Royal Voluntary Service, hospital staff and patients, our trust, loyalty and compassion, always with a smile and a positive sense of humour.

This is exactly why I am so very proud of Royal Voluntary Service, Macclesfield.

Royal Voluntary Service Café and Shop, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

Royal Voluntary Service Café and Shop, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

Royal Voluntary Service has been an integral part of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Wirral, for over 20 years, operating two cafes and a shop on the site. At the start of the pandemic in March 2020, the site’s Service Manager, Debbie Morris, asked the Trust if the charity’s service could remain open and continue to provide the much-needed service at the centre. As there are no other service providers nearby, the team felt strongly that they did not want to leave the centre’s staff and patients wanting at a time of great need.

In a matter of days, manager Debbie, Service Assistants Patricia Black and Ben Morris, along with some fantastic support from the Trust’s Services Contract Manager, we were overjoyed to be able to adjust our services to become Covid safe in order to continue to support the NHS and the community. The unit has remained open for the full duration of the pandemic and remains a valuable part of the centre to staff and patients alike.

Whilst adjusting our main outpatients’ retail unit to ensure it was Covid safe, we also thought in-depth of ways to be able to support the medical staff whilst they worked on the Covid wards. Many of the staff were not able to leave their allocated wards for up to 12 hours. A simple menu was designed to allow staff to pre-order their breakfasts and lunches to be delivered to the wards safely. It was important to us to ensure that the hardworking, remarkable NHS staff in the centre were looked after, and our principal Royal Voluntary Service Stella Values were fulfilled.

The Clatterbridge Unit still thrives to offer an invaluable service in what can only be described as a community of staff, patients and visitors, growing in strength every day .

Passion and determination were the two dominant driving traits in our mission to support this community within the Cancer Centre. I am hugely proud of my staff and my store at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Royal Voluntary Service.
